Predicting the 2019 VFX Oscars

This is becoming a bit of a tradition now. A couple of years ago I tried to predict who is going to win the VFX Oscar. Time to take my chances again!

This year we have 5 movies with incredible VFX competing for the golden statue. Marvel’s epic Avengers: Infinity War, the heartwarming Christopher Robin, the one-with-Ryan-Gosling-in-it First Man, the gg wp Ready Player One and the least bad Star Wars movie of 2018 Solo: A Star Wars Story.

This 5 movies are competing for the VFX Oscar.

But who will win the golden statue?

And the 2019 winner is…

Well, apparently my neural network has developed some sort of admiration for Ryan Gosling. According to the AI, First Man has the greatest chances of getting the golden statue.

One thing to keep in mind: the algorithm hates superhero movies. This makes it discard Avengers: Infinity War despite its tremendous IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores. Since this is the culmination of the ambitious comic adaptation plan, there may be a surprise first award for a Marvel film.

chance of First Man winning an Oscar.

What to look for:

Most winners tend to cluster in a high scores area.
Both First Man and Avengers: Infinity War are in the “gold zone”.
